The Adventure of the Steampunk Franchise
A long-needed break. Lots of bike paraphernalia from the family, so I hope that I didn't write Cyndi off by slamming into sheet ice on her last week. (Yes, bloody stupid of me. But I have the most incredible bruise!) Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes. I don't know what I went in expecting, exactly, but I came out with a huge impossible grin on my face. ( spoilers ) Current Mood: pensive |

PROPER POST-XMAS POST TO FOLLOW POST HASTE Why am I awake writing more The Thick of It fic? Now with added illness, depression, overuse of the word 'clawing', plot-semblance, an abortion and poss!death.* *this is my attempt at a "warmer" fic. |

I got off several cutting remarks which no doubt did serious damage to their egos.
I am sitting down on my own for a bit for the first time today. I am watching DS9 (this is a totally valid use of my time) and the little VLC icon has a Santa hat. Cannot work out whether this is awesome or a little creepy. This made me lol childishly, because there is apparently no celebration that cannot be improved for me by mocking the Daily Mail comments pages. *flop* I will probably be online later, so not much point spreading seasonal fluff for now. Still, I hope everyone who wants to is having a good time, except for vkbar, who I hope is stuck under a fallen Christmas tree. [FIC]: The Resurrection (Malcolm/Jamie, Hard R)
[TITLE]: The Resurrection [AUTHOR]: slasheuse [FANDOM]: The Thick Of It [PAIRING]: Malcolm/Jamie. R for language, violence, sexual content. [DISCLAIMERS]: Not mine & making no money. [SUMMARY]: Messing with the events of 3x07 and 3x08, this fic is either a complex exploration of the dark(er) underbelly of Jamie and Malcolm's relationship, or an excuse for them to have a violent fight in a stairwell. Speculating on Malcolm's marriage, timelines, and the limits of scatalogical terror, this fic sees Malcolm's career cold on the slab, and Jamie determined to create a bit of forcible resurrection. This fic will also probably be BURIED due to when I'm posting it, but I really hope you like it! Do let me know if you're reading. ( He was still better than Steve Fleming, and it helped to have a pile of flashy shit to prove it ) |

you know the rules and so do I
RICK ASTLEY IS ON THE RADIO. ...when I opened the update tab, this seemed totally worth recording. I don't think it is. Still, it was mildly disconcerting to hear it not emenating from a youtube tab and computer speakers, in a "the internet is invading" way. In half an hour I will be en route to Liverpool Street Station, manuvering a broken suitcase and several bags, and thence Norfolk, cats, food, hot baths, and no work for five days. I cannot currently think about anything except how much I am looking forward to this. Originally posted at Dreamwidth ( comments); please comment there if you can. |

Five-card stud, nothing wild, and the sky's the limit.
1) I am far more stirred to irritation with the anti-RATM backlash than I previously was with anything to do with the Christmas number 1. Yes, I'm sure you are the first person to have pointed out that the people wanting Simon Cowell to briefly not win at everything are JUST AS MUCH SHEEPLE AS THOSE THEY PURPORT TO DESPISE, Sony gets more money this way, yes, well done, aren't you clever. Oh the humanity. Anyway, cannons_at_dawn already wrote about this last week at greater length, so. 2) Jacob and I finished our TNG (re)watch-a-thon of some months standing. Freakishly I had never actually seen All Good Things, and am now a little sad. Still, there is Generations and Nemesis to watch before it is really all done! ...crap. (Also, I knew that alt!Data went to Cambridge, but not that he was in Jacob's words a CRAZY CAT ANDROID. D'aww.) 3) I have started watching the Futurama movies. I, er, hope they get better :( 4) My next two weeks at work are three days each. Despite not getting paid for the public holidays/taking Christmas Eve off to get out of London before 40% of residents have the same idea, I could not feel better about this. FREE Borderville tickets TONIGHT!
Hullo everyone, Due to unforeseen circumstances, I find myself in possession of two extra tickets for the Borderville/Eureka Machines/Electric Six gig tonight. If you want to come, you can have one for free! (Although if you did feel able to buy them from their previous owner, I'm sure she'd appreciate it, and they are only £5 each.) It's an early gig, with Borderville on first and the whole thing wrapped up by 10pm (although the ticket also gives you free entry to Trashy/Transformation/Room 101 if you want to dance until the small hours). We're meeting in the Hobgoblin at 6pm - first come, first served for the spare tickets! |

Mistletoe Meme Part Love Meme, part Darkroom Meme, part festive-extravaganza-of-love-and-joy-and-p ossible-kink, here is your very own anonymized or not-so-anonymous chance to submit yourself for kisses et cetera under the LJ Mistletoe. Whether you just want to leave a bit more anonymous love, make a without-hope-or-agenda declaration (a la Richard Curtis), or explain exactly what and how and where your thoughts re: the more ravishing member(s) of your flist have been tending, tis the season to get involved and tell your flist why they're loved/admired/fancied. Even if your thoughts are entirely pure, leave someone a message with Christmas wishes & your hopes for them in the coming year. Or be filthy. Really, it's up to you. Just comment with your username, repost the link in your own journal, and trust in yr flist friends/fans/elves/perverts/etc to do the rest. Remember, also, that it's better to give than to receive! |

I will lay me down This article on vegetarian Christmas dinners is fairly standard fluff, but I did smirk with recognition at: "The meat-eaters at the table will probably try a small helping – well, it is Christmas – and will probably go on about how nice it is before explaining why they could never actually be vegetarian themselves, even though they don't usually eat much meat these days. Just smile like you've never had that discussion before."FWIW, I am always happy with excitingly stuffed portobello mushrooms and my mother's maple-roast parsnips. Om nom nom. Or mushroom pie. Pieeee. As may be apparent I currently lack the time or inclination to read many websites apart from the Guardian's daily bulletin and the odd UK politics blog, but this article about mental health among children in Gaza is quite sniff-worthy, and also I hate Prince GeorgeCharles.
